Howard Mark's career in drug smuggling began by dealing small amounts of marijuana whilst studying for his postgraduate Philosophy degree at Oxford. By the mid 1980's he had 43 aliases, 89 phone lines and 25 companies trading throughout the world. Smuggling consignments of cannabis weighing up to 30 tonnes from Pakistan and Thailand to America and Canada, Howard was a wanted man in many countries. He was eventually caught by the Drug Enforcement Agency following a world-wide operation that took several years.
MR NICE
"He was Britains most wanted man. He has just spent seven years in America's toughest penitentiary. You'll like him."
In his first book Howard Marks recaps the entire story of his drug-smuggling career; how it started, who was involved, what he did and how he did it, and, of course, how he ended up in Terre Haute. It is a brilliantly written book containing fascinating stories, it really is a must read for anyone. Even if you don't agree with his views and certain personal habits you will still find his stories both shocking and entertaining.
THE HOWARD MARKS BOOK OF DOPE STORIES
"A man who makes Peter Pan look like a geriatric with sleeping sickness" Loaded
Howard Mark's book of dope stories does exactly what it says on the tin. It is an anthology of hundreds of pieces of writing on, more or less, every drug known to man. Expect stories that describe psychedelic hallucinations, various opinions on the subject of legalisation, experiment reports and many travellers tales. If you are anti-drugs then this book will probably bore you to tears, but for any drug-lover it's interesting and, if anything, a little anti-drugs itself.
SENOR NICE
Straight life from Wales to South America
The fantastic sequel to Mr Nice, Senor Nice starts with Howard performing a live show in his home town of Kenfig Hill, he meets up with old friends and a conversation they have about Welsh culture suggests some impossible claims. Elvis was Welsh, there is a tribe of Welsh-speaking Native Americans, a legendary Welsh smuggler was Howard's ancestor, his great-great-grandfather was the half brother of Billy the Kid - Howard diarises his time in Jamaica, Panama, Brazil and Wales finding out the truth, the result is the truly entertaining Senor Nice.
